Thinking of selling your car but have no idea what it's worth?

Your first port of call

Check these out for rough values of what your car is worth:

* www.nrmacarwise.com.au – used cars. They offer a certified report too where they even check out your vehicle. Definitely worth checking out

* www.redbook.com.au – new and used cars, motorbikes and scooters

* www.drive.com.au – new and used cars

Then consider:

* How new is the car?

* How many kilometres has it done?

* What are other people selling the same car for?

* What's the body like (e.g. any dents, scratches, etc.)?

* How good is the engine and other mechanical aspects?

* Is there any work that needs to be done (e.g. new tyres, new brakes, etc.)?

These factors will generally bring the car's value down (with the exception of vintage and old, rare cars – the older the more they're worth!), so adjust the price accordingly.

And a final word?

Leave room for bargaining! Every buyer wants a bargain and will no doubt always try to bring the price down so stick to your guns or aim high to begin with!
