If you haven't already noticed... scooters are the hottest things on two wheels!
Mackay Regional Council in far north Queensland is certainly in the know with the chic scooter scene and has recently invested in four Piaggio scooters – three Beverlys and one X9500 maxi – for duties across a number of areas, including the regular water meter shuttle.
According to council fleet coordinator Graham Sutton, the scooters have been extremely helpful and efficient, not only in reducing their day-to-day running costs, but for the sheer convenience of the machines over the council's car fleet.
"The Beverly appealed from the start because of the 16-inch wheels, and it's been great going up and down footpaths and in situations where we generally require a lot of stability," said Graham. "And the appeal of the X9 is all the underseat storage, as well as the power from the big maxi.
"From an economic viewpoint, scooters just make so much sense, and we are delighted with our purchases," he adds.
We just love what the Council has done and hope other organisations and businesses will follow suit! If you need some more convincing, here are some more great reasons to use scooters...
10 reasons to use scooters
1. They're cheap to run (even cheaper than public transport! $4-6 of petrol can get you 100km!).
2. You don't have to pay for parking – just park on the sidewalk (as long as you're not blocking the path or any driveways).
3. The price tag starts at $1690 for a new one (instead of $10,000+ for a new car).
4. Scooter rego is cheaper than car rego.
5. Zip in and out of traffic with ease (say "ciao!" to traffic jams and peak-hour chaos).
6. Go through tollways for free in some states.
7. A scooter service is cheaper than a car service.
8. They're more environmentally friendly than cars.
9. They have lots of storage space (carry your handbag, makeup bag and heels without them flying onto the road!).
10. So hip and chic!! Need we say more?!
