The scoop

The Suzuki SX4 Crossover is a rugged and, at the same time, compact all-wheel drive, as its names suggests. Meet a sedan that loves rough-and-tumble roads as much as it does urban ones.

Style & drive

The main thing Suzuki has mastered with the SX4 is balance – it’s not too big and not too small, which actually makes it quite unique in this market. It’s sturdy but energetic and easy to manoeuvre. All this makes it a great city car, as well as the power steering and the fact that the car’s height makes you feel like you’re dominating the road. Take the SX4 onto rougher roads and the height comes in handy again, this time ensuring the car avoids any rocks sticking out from the ground.

Depending on road conditions, there are three models to choose from: 2WD (good for short drives on urban roads), 4WD Auto (2WD mode where the rear wheels are engaged when the front ones slip) and 4WD Lock (for tougher off-road conditions and can only be used at speeds up to 60km/h).

While there’s enough room for the driver and passengers, the boot is lacking. Also, the interior design (hello plastic) tends to look a little cheap. At least the exterior has a nice finish.

A cool feature lets you unlock the car without even taking the key out of your pocket. Other fun things include an eight-speaker audio system, climate control, speed-sensing volume control, and trip computer.

Safety

The Suzuki SX4 received an ANCAP crash-testing rating of four stars. Six airbags, ABS, EBD and traction control are standard.

Eco

Fuel consumption is average for an AWD – 7.6L / 100km.
