3 words to describe the new VW Polo (2010 model)?

Zippy, compact, sporty.

What was your first impression of the new VW polo?

This compact small car has everything you need to get from ‘A’ to ’B’ and nothing you don’t. Perfect for city driving and in particular city parking, the VW Polo ensures a smooth and agile ride.

For a small car class vehicle, the VW polo is compact, spacious and basic yet reliable and provides an enjoyable ride for all.

It’s best suited to young female first car buyers and older independent females.

What about the interior?

The interior is clean-cut and smooth. With a dash that’s extremely basic, straight forward and familiar, the interior of the VW polo provides the driver with a high level of simplicity when driving or changing the radio station.

The VW Polo is compact on the outside but deceivingly roomy on the inside. This 5-seat small car will allow you to comfortably carry 4 passengers, or yourself and a lot of shopping!
The VW has a sporty and plain interior, which allows for a more basic and simple driving experience.

How’s the drive?

The smallness of the car means it moves around sharp corners with great agility and parks easily in those tiny parking spots in the city. The strong engine allows this little beast to power up any hill with ease and be able to accelerate between 40km/h zones to 110km/h zones easily.

What are the funkiest features of the new VW polo?

The funkiest features of the VW polo include:

  • Cargo area lighting
  • Glovebox with cooling feature
  • Semi-automatic air-conditioning system including dust and pollen filter
  • Vanity mirrors in sun visors
  • Warning tone if lights are left on
  • Warning tone and indicator lamp if seatbelt in front is unfastened.

It’s gorgeous & stylish but is it safe?

You’ll definitely feel as safe as wrapping yourself in bubble wrap in the new VW Polo (2010 model). Having received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating as well its European equivalent, the VW Polo will stop your safety worries.

The all-important car safety features are standard for all VW Polos (round of applause for VW). The Polo includes 6 airbags (2 front, 2 side and 2 curtain), Electronic stabilisation program (ESP) including anti-lock braking system (ABS) with braking assist, anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic limited-slip differential (EDS), and engine braking control (MSR).

Will your wallet love this car as much as you do?

The new VW Polo ranges from $16,690 (1.4 3-door Trendline manual) to $24,850 (1.6Td 5- door Comfortline DSG), which puts the new VW Polo in great competition with its small car competitors.

Its also amazing on fuel economy: 5.5 lires of fuel per 100 km and has a 5-star eco rating from the Government's Green Vehicle Guide.

Styles & colours?

The new VW Polo comes in 2 styles: the basic 3-door with a 1.4-litre engine and the DSG turbo diesel 5-door.

It’s available in 7 different colours. 4 of the colour options (white, red, blue and yellow) are available at no extra cost. Silver, grey and black metallic paints are a $500 extra option.

Space & storage?

Although the new VW Polo is a ‘small’ car, there’s nothing small about the space. With plenty of leg room and head space, some of the storage features include:

  • Storage bins in all doors (space for 1.5 litre bottles in front)
  • Deep, twin cup holders
  • Load restraining hooks in cargo area
  • With the rear seats in their upright position, rear storage is a reasonable 280 litres. With the rear seats laid flat – storage grows to 952 litres.
  • Reasonably sized glovebox that has a clever secret compartment for the owner's manual and a little tray for coins.

The downsides:

I test-drove a manual and the way the clutch engaged was a bit off (not too sure how to express this in a technical way) which meant the car stalled a lot.

The reverse is one of those push-down reverses which unless you know where it is or are told, there might be a few difficulties.

It’s also quiet basic in regards to features the radio system, etc.

If personified, who would the VW polo be?

Gwyneth Paltrow. Because like the VW Polo, she’s small on the outside yet big-hearted on the inside. Also, like the Polo, she has everything you want and need without being over the top.
