We caught up with the lovely host of 'The Music Jungle' and Sydney's 104.1 2DayFM, Lizzy Lovette, to find out some helpful advice for aspiring radio/TV presenters, plus all the goss in her life...

How did you get into radio and TV presenting?

It's one long story!!! But in a nutshell On leaving school, I completed Media and Journalism degrees (which covered Print, TV and Radio Journalism). During school and university, I did numerous acting and TV presenting courses, including a weekend, year-long course at NIDA. I did various TV internships while studying, then actually through my agent, was cast in a TV commercial for 2DayFM. From the shoot, I scored a job as a Black Thunder pilot driving the promo vehicle giving out freebies. I then put a demo together and was offered my first on-air announcing shift – 1am to 6amfrom there I worked up the ranks... and was then offered my first TV gig on Channel V.

Was it a hard journey or did it fall into your lap?

Very hard! Both TV and radio are such competitive industries, as there are so few jobs with so many people lining up for them! In the media industry you need to make things happen for yourself and be proactive – very quickly you discover no-one else is going to do it for you. So although I have had some great breaks, they have come through working hard – I live by something one of my heroes Oprah said about the industry " there is no such thing as luck, luck is when preparation meets the point of opportunity"... deep.

What advice would you give to readers who want to be a TV/radio presenter?

Be persistent, patient and working very hard at your craft. You need to have a tough skin and believe in yourself even when numerous people put you down. Always be over-prepared. At the end of the day, even if I don't get a particular role, as long as I can say to myself that I gave it my best shot, then I am happy. You need to be able to take the knocks and keep plugging away!

What car/scooter/bike do you own?

An aged A4 Audi.

What's your dream car/scooter?

Ooohhh that's tricky! I'm loving the BMW 325i Coupe, but also love the new Audi A4 Cabriolet Or for off-road, the BMW X5! Yum!

What's it like always been 'live' and having to be on the ball all the time and not letting there be any silent spots on the show?

Live broadcasting is the best! It's dangerous, unscripted and gives you a real adrenaline rush! Nothing beats it. It's funny, if I'm live to air, I'm less likely to fluff a line where as when in pre-record, in the back of your mind you know you can retake, so it's not so 'do or die'!

How do you make sure there's no silence on the show? (What's your little trick?)

I make sure I've skulled a sugar-free V and have had my Energy NW Nutrient Water before going on air... and then I am buzzing, pumped and my mouth is working at 100kms an hour!

I'm the happiest when...

I'm with the people I love – my family.

I get mad when...

people pass judgment and treat others unkindly without even knowing them!

My most embarrassing moment was...

thinking I was interviewing MC Hammer on the radio when it was an impersonator being very X-rated!

I have a crush on...

Jon Bon Jovi have since I was 8!

I secretly want...

to accompany Oprah and Gael on one of their road-trips across America! Us girls would whoop it up! I love Oprah – she is such an inspiration!

One thing you probably don't know about me is...

I am a horsey girl who loves the country. My pony, Bobby, is 29. I have had him since he was 8, and my horse Robbie is 25 – and I also have had him since he was 8 years old. They are my beautiful boys and always make me happy. I can't ride them anymore as they are so ancient, but give them apples and makeovers! 29 horse years is the equivalent of around 90-people-years old!

I would love to meet...

Jon Bon Jovi so I can convert my crush! Ha! Ha! And I admire his story. He started sweeping the floors of his local radio station and is now one of the biggest musical stars in the world – he had a dream and he made it happen. I really respect that.
