Cate Blanchett sure is taking this environmental business seriously.

Cate has officially gone green – she's environmentally aware and is actually doing something about it.

"I'm extremely concerned about climate change as a mother because I want to ensure for my children a very safe and sustainable future," she tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph.

Cate says she'll reduce her green house gas emissions by 13,300kg – the equivalent of 2.66 cars off the road, and this girl is putting even more money where her mouth is.

Cate also:

* Switched her household power supply to GreenPower
* Installed a water-efficient shower head in her house
* Washes her clothes in cold water
* Installed adequate roof installation
* Gives up one domestic air flight each year
* Buys carbon offsets for any plane travel she does
* Reduces her household electricity and gas usage by 20 per cent
* Installed a solar, hot water heater.

"I want to see a connected and progressive future for Australia, where we harness our greatest natural resources; sun, wind and brain power," she says.

And Cate has also said that when she and her playwright husband, Andrew Upton, take over as artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company in 2008, they hope to take it in a green direction too. We love you Cate!
