Three words to describe the Volkswagen Eos
Gorgeous, fun, elegant.
What was your first impression of the new Volkswagen Eos?
Well this is my affordable dream car so I have tried not to be bias but this is such a fantastic car for women!
Volkswagen say that “E•os (éðs')” in Greek Mythology means:” The goddess of the dawn” and this gorgeous convertible definitely will bring out the goddess in you.
Taking this baby home
Initially I drove the Eos with the roof up (it was a really cold day and I wasn’t rugged up enough) and found it to be a very comfortable, spacious and stylish coupe.
Once I was at home, it was very easy to work out how to bring the roof down or just open the sunroof. There is a button that converts the stylish coupe into a gorgeous convertible, it’s great fun to watch it all open up and pack itself neatly into the boot and the whole process only takes 25 seconds! There is another button that opens the sunroof.
What about the interior?
There is brushed aluminium trim throughout the interior which gives it a really stylish, sporty feel.
The dashboard is modern and the colours contrast beautifully. The leather steering wheel has multi functions such as volume control for the stereo and controls for the trip computer.
Who would this car be best suited to and why?
The Volkswagen Eos would best be suited to women without children or with older children due to the restrictions on the boot size. It could be a bit tricky to squeeze a large pram in there along with all the other goodies a mum with young ones needs to carry around.
It would also be the perfect car for women whose children have left home and who are now re-embracing their freedom and are looking for a car that is fun yet stylish.
This car represents fun, sunshine and freedom. It’s perfect for women who love to drive around with the breeze in their hair.
Colours
The Volkswagen Eos is available eight colours. Two are standard are the other six are options.
The standard sold colours are Candy White and Salsa Red.
The optional metallic colours are Polar Sea Blue, Shadow Blue, Berryllium Grey, Reflex Silver and Opal Silver. Alternatively there is an option for pearlescent paint in Deep Black.
How’s the drive?
Fabulous! It’s very smooth and hugs the road well. I took the Eos for a drive along some lovely windy roads and it handled exceptionally well.
The 2.0 litre diesel engine delivers an impressive 103kW of power. I tested the automatic, diesel version and it was just a little slow off the mark but it didn’t take long to find it’s feet and was very responsive.
Cruise control also comes standard which is handy for long distance driving.
The cool stuff
This car has so much cool stuff I could go on and on so here are the highlights.
Firstly, it would have to be the simple to use power retractable hard-top roof . You’ve got the safety of a stylish hard top coupe when the roof is up and at the flick of the button you are driving around in a gorgeous convertible. This all happens in just 25 seconds!
If you don’t feel like putting the roof down, you could choose to simply open the sunroof. Alternatively, if it’s cold and wet, just close the clear glass sunroof but leave the cover open and it lets the natural light in.
There are vanity mirrors on both the driver and passenger side. Both have sliding covers that when opened turns on a light, making it nice and easy to check your makeup whatever time of day.
The Eos comes with an easy to use, 6-disc dash-mounted CD changer with MP3/wma functions and touch screen operations. It also has with eight speakers which gives it fantastic sound!
There is dual climate control air conditioning with an air quality sensor as well as a dust and pollen filter.
The interior lighting has time delay and at night when you unlock the car the headlights and interior lights come on which is a good security feature.
Easy to park?
With the roof down, a breeze!
Initially I did find it a little tricky to reverse park when the roof was up due to the position of the rear seat headrest and the smaller size of the back window. But once I was used to the size of the car it was easier.
To help you park there is a parking assist system which gives you an audio warning if you are getting too close to something.
Comfy seats?
The Eos comes with ergonomic sports front seats and I found them to be very comfortable and supportive. They were also easy to adjust. There are also height and lumbar adjustment controls for the front seats.
How big's the booty?
Volume with the Roof raised 380 L and with the roof folded 205 L
There is a protective covered area to safely store items in the boot regardless of whether the roof is up or down. It’s a fairly long and wide area but not overly high. This might be limiting for certain larger items.
Cup holders
There are two cup holders in the front near the hand brake. They are a good size and don’t get in the way when you are driving.
There are also 1 litre bottle holders in the front door pockets.
It’s gorgeous and stylish but is it safe?
ANCAP have given the Volkswagen Eos a rating of 4 stars. According to ANCAP, the passenger compartment in the crash test held its shape well and it also scored top marks for the side impact crash test.
It comes with safety features such as:
* Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) which helps to maintain control of the car in critical driving situations by adjusting engine output and braking individual wheels hence returning more control to the driver
* Anti-lockBraking System (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA) that helps prevent the wheels from locking in the case of heavy braking
* Electronic Brake-Pressure Distribution (EBD)
* Traction control - Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
* Hazard warning system triggered in emergency braking situation
* Driver and front passenger airbags as well as combined head and side impact airbags for front passengers
* Door side impact protection
* Rigid safety cell with front and rear crumple zones
* A rigid bodyshell and active rollover bars that are extended above the rear seats
* Front fog light (mounted in lower bumper) and rear fog lamps
* Front safety optimised head restraints that are height adjustable and rear head restraints
* Front seat belts with pre-tensioners and belt force limiters and 3 point seat belts for all passengers
* A visual and acoustic warning for driver and front seat passenger seat belts not fastened
Security
* Anti-theft Electronic engine immobiliser
* Remote central locking
* Deadlock mechanism with LED warning light on driver’s door
* 2 stage unlocking (programmable)
* Automatic locking after takeoff (programmable)
* One touch lock/unlock for driver
If personified, who would the Volkswagen Eos be?
Jennifer Anniston, cool, stylish and fun.
