We all know good things come in small packages - like Tiffany and Co. turquoise boxes, Tic-Tacs and those miniature macaroons you can never just have one of. And so it is with the Audi A1 Sportback, so zippy you could get whip-lash just thinking about it.
However – just like Dannii Minogue – one should not be fooled by the Sportback’s petite frame. She makes up in power what she appears to lack through her compact appearance. The Audi offers seven powerful and efficient engines with a high-end S tronic transmission. Fancy auto speak for ‘she doesn’t just wear the pants; she’s kicking butt channelling Rose Byrne at the 2012 SWAG Awards’. Despite a power-house engine, the Audi A1 is surprisingly efficient. She has a small appetite and consumes just 3.8 litres of diesel fuel per 100km. Good for millage as well as for the purse. This pocket rocket also has the luxury of a spacious interior which you can customise to suit your particular taste. Forget the ye-olde-worldy days of RSL coloured carpet upholstery. Coloured air vents anyone? Fine leather upholstery? Oh, the choices.
With her combination of sass and sophistication, it’s no wonder the Audi A1 was awarded Best Car of 2012 by automotive magazine, ‘Auto Motor and Sport’. The Sportback is an extension of the A1 family, and ala Dannii, shouldn’t be overlooked as merely the cute little sister.
It’s a facade she puts on before she sneaks out the window at night. We’re so there - with bells, glitter and heels on.
