Have you ever been driving along, too occupied singing a song, then wondered what the feck the speed limit is?
Clever BMW is going to launch a Speed Limit Information system that tells drivers what the speed limit is in any area they’re driving!
It has a camera fitted near the interior mirror which very R2-D2-edly monitors signs by the roadside and variable speed limit signs, and compares them with the data saved in the BMW navigation system.
Even when there’s temporary road work speed limits, the system zooms in on the temporary road sign and that overrides the one saved in the system.
“This technology is a first for the Australian market, and typifies the approach BMW takes in respect to development of cutting-edge technology solutions,” says BMW Australia Managing Director Stavros Yallouridis.
“The ultimate driving machine must offer unrivalled performance capabilities, as well as the most advanced safety systems available in the world today.”
The Speed Limit information system, which operates in conjunction with BMW’s Navigation System Professional, will debut on the BMW 760Li, 750Li and 750i later this year as a standard fitment item.
Customers will also be able to specify the system across the remainder of the 7 Series range, as well as 5 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series Sedan and 5 Series Touring for $700.
