It seems cars have taken over iPhones as the item for bedazzling.
First, Indian jewellery company GoldPlus blinged out a Tata Nano in gold, rubies, pearls and diamonds; and now German model cars aficionado Robert Gülpen has built a one-eighths-scale Lamborghini replica from carbon and – deciding that a regular ol’ Lamborghini wasn’t flashy enough – encrusted it with $2.67-million-worth of precious stones.
The rims are plated with gold and platinum while the steering wheel and seats are covered with diamonds. The model took 52-year-old Gülpen 500 hours to complete.
The real doozy? It’s expected to fetch more than six times as much as the real thing at $3.15 million (a Lamborghini Aventador goes for $754,600 – you do the math) at auction, making it the most expensive model car in the world.
