Kate Ceberano has never been predictable - and that's just the way she likes it. With an impressive and diverse body of work to her name, Kate, who first shot to fame in 1984 as the 16-year-old singer for dance band I'm Talking, has turned her attention to the festive season for her latest inspiration. Merry Christmas, a collection of her favourite Christmas songs, is also a project that's close to her heart.

"I wanted to make an album my family - especially my daughter, Gypsy - could enjoy," Kate explains. "I didn't want it to be all this heavy, serious stuff. I hear Gypsy singing along to I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus, so I wanted it to be fun like that."

Merry Christmas was also a chance for Kate to reteam with musical maestro Chong Lim, who produced and arranged the album. Kate also collaborated with Irish singer Ronan Keating for the track, It's Only Christmas. "I adore Ronan's voice," she says. "We got along famously and more importantly, we sound sweet together."

As Kate readies herself for the holidays, her fans can get into the festive mood by listening to her versions of Christmas classics like "White Christmas", "Jingle Bell Rock" and her own favourite seasonal song, "Santa Baby".

"I've always loved Christmas. My family get together; we eat great food, share gifts and great stories, and sing and laugh together. This collection of songs represents what Christmas means to me: the fun, the nostalgia, and the message of peace and goodwill."
