Astro Palace Santorini Hotel Review

What's the style of the hotel?

Chic, modern, stylish but a home away from home at the same time.

Who would it suit?

People who like contemporary chic-ness, who want their own space and don't like feeling crammed.

What were the best bits?

The décor (so chic!), the pool area (private and less squishy than on the beaches) and the quieter location - but it's only a 10-minute walk to the action and a 5-min stroll to the bus station. Perfect.

The breakfast was yummy! One day it was a small, self-serve buffet, but the other days it was a la carte kind of thing - you order what you wanted and I loved the feta, olives with bread; Greek yoghurt with honey, orange juice, and a hefty plate of watermelon. Lush.

I also adored the variety of rooms/suites (there are 6 including loft with private pool, honeymoon, double, superior double, executive suite, private jacczzi); the cute bling on the shower wall in my superior double room, and the fantastic space each room/suite had, which is unlike most places on the Caldera. Everything's brand-new too, as the hotel opened in July 2010.

And what you see on the website is exactly what you get.

And the worst/what could be improved?

Nothing really. Just minor things like the toilet paper could be thicker and more luxe. That's it though - I really love this hotel! Next year their spa will open (think massages, beauty treatments, Turkish bath, sauna, indoor mini pool, etc.).

Oh! The pull-string in the shower is for emergencies if you're wondering! Like if you need help from the staff. I had no idea and kept yanking it thinking it would turn a fan on.

If this hotel were a famous person, who would it be?

Nicole Richie - chic, fashionable, modern, and loving shiny golden hues.

Ratings

Design and décor: 5
Location: 5 if you want some quiet and space, and to be out of the crammed section; 3 if you want to be right in where the action is.
Comfort: 4 - the bed could be comfier.
Service: 5 - reception is absolutely lovely and the chef is nice too. The housekeeper does a great job too.
Cleanliness: 5
Price: 5 for what it is. Very reasonable. From 128 Euros (low season) to 560 Euros per night (high season, for their most luxe suite). Find all rates here.
Chic-ness: 5
Overall: 5 - I love it. If you wanted to be right on the caldera, do that for one night (you can always go up there at night or whenever and eat or walk around - same view) and stay the rest at Astro Palace. That's what I'd do. I'd definitely stay here again.

The Astro Palace reopens on 16 June 2011 (most of Santorini ‘shuts down' over winter).

And what's Santorini like?

Um, like the shizzle! I love it. It's ridiculously unique, chic, fun, full of gorgeous natural gorgeousness. and is full of stairs! It's a workout! It's my fave 'city'. I had 6 days there but did most of the island in 4.
