The Golden Rules

31-December-2007

So we have established that tyres are important, right? So what exactly does a girl need to know in her everyday auto life when it comes to her tyres? Girl-friendly Bridgestone Select gave AutoChic the golden rules...

Check tyre pressures in your tyres regularly

Bridgestone Select recommends that you check your tyres weekly. And when they are cold. And don't forget to use a gauge to be accurate.

Let Bridgestone Select help choose and fit the right tyres for you

It's as easy as visiting the new Bridgestone Select store nearest to you.

Avoid mixing tyres

Bridgestone Select recommends that you don't mix and match your tyres on the same axle due to varying constructions styles. Sound strange? Basically, it can be dangerous to mix tyres of different sizes or aspect ratios so keep your outfit matching girls.

Check your tread

The tread is grippy part of the tyre that touches the road and makes you stay on the road! Make sure you check the tread every month at least.

We're legally required to have a tread depth of at least 1.5mm, which can be fiddly to measure. The good news is that your tyres are pretty smart – just look on the sidewall (the rubber, side part of the tyre that doesn't roll on the ground) and you should see little triangles/arrows. When the tread wears back to this arrow, no matter how tip-top the rest of the tyre is, your tyres are definitely bald (illegal!).

Avoid hard braking or sudden acceleration

If you can avoid it, it is not advisable to break unnecessarily or often or to accelerate too quickly. It's bad for your tyres!

Park well

Watch the kerb ladies, hitting it can throw your tyres right out. Many impact fractures occur in the sidewall area of the tyre rather that the tread so watch hitting your sidewalls when parking!
