Toyota Tops Best Global Green Brands List

If greenness is close to godliness then Toyota is pretty much the Dalai Lama, Moses, Jesus, Krishna and Lady Gaga all rolled in one. According to brand management consultancy firm Interbrand, Toyota is the best global green brand of 2011, hoisting it up from the 11th spot it held last year.

How so? Interbrand’s analysis is based on publicly available data and environmental sustainability information from Reuters, which is then paired with Interbrand’s understanding of how brands create value. The green ranking depends on a company’s efforts to act in environmentally responsible ways and how, if at all, these efforts are perceived by consumers.

Toyota took out top spot for its contribution to realising a low-carbon, recycling society which involved the Japanese company reducing carbon dioxide output in its manufacturing processes. No doubt Toyota’s greatest achievement in diversifying energy sources is the legendary hybrid vehicle Prius.

The green movement fits in nicely with Toyota’s philosophy since its country of origin, Japan, has aeons of experience in energy optimisation due to limited natural resources.

Other car brands to make the list include Volkswagen in 5th spot and Honda in 6th.
