Toyota Charges Japan with Prius

20-July-2011

Out of catastrophe, often come positive insights. Inspired by the ingenuity of Japanese locals in the aftermath of the devastation that ravaged the country earlier this year, Toyota is going to offer an optional power outlet with its Prius hybrid that can run household appliances for two days.

After learning of victims using their Prius hatchbacks to power electrical appliances such as fridges in the wake of the earthquake disaster, Toyota announced that optional power-points would be made available in Prius models from 2012.

Whilst it is possible to charge devices like small DVD units through your car, this is done via the cigarette lighter. The Prius will be the first car fitted with a system that allows you to power larger appliances like whitegoods.

Available only in Japan at first, Toyota is sure to see the light with this saviour of an idea and bring it to other regions. Think how grandiose your next road trip could be!
