Volvo is in for some small yet very eco-friendly competition.
Vehiconomics is a brand new Swedish car company that makes ultra-efficient, light weight vehicles for urban transportation.
Using smart, innovative technologies, Vehiconomics offers custom-made transportation fast and affordably. Its latest reveal? Meet the Smite. This cute-as-a-bubble number is a two-seater, three-wheeler and weighs in at just 130 kilos.
Costing around $5,500, the Smite will be available in gas, ethanol and electric options and with a top speed of 90 kilometres per hour, we may just get to see the Smite scooting around the streets of Sweden cities by summer 2009.
So could the future be a case of back to the future? Allow me to explain. The Smite looks like a modern version of the old Messerschmitt cars - a very small, economical type of vehicle that became popular in Europe at the end of WWII. Typically, these futuristic cars had bubble-style canopies, giving rise to the term 'bubble' car. Many of them were made in Germany or the UK and their design was in response to rising fuel costs and the desire for personal transport. Sounds familiar?
The Messerschmitt and other bubble cars were gradually overtaken by larger cars during the abundance of oil and the era of cheap gas.
According to Vehiconomics, the Smite is perfect for those who want "safe city commuting".
Talk about history repeating itself...
