Ok, ive recently been offered a job as a Trainee Salesman for Hyundai. Which im really excited about. I have had a few people trying to tell me its a bad idea because the market is bad. With high interest rates on homes etc. But this has been my dream to get into sales. Should i go for it anyway. Im not fussed about the pay. I really just want the job for the satisfaction of being able to share the experience of buying a new car with someone. Also if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated. Regards Shannon.
I think its a great idea Shannon. Car sales doesnt have to be "sleazy" or "horrible" and you can make good money esp for prestige brands. Do you have kids however? It can be hard with hours in dealerships?
No, i dont have kids and have recently moved to the city. So i find i dont know a lot of people atm. So i thought it would b a great way to meet people and also since inew to here i wont feel like im missing out on anything.
Keep in mind that the car industry has a high turn over of salesman. My previous partner worked in the industry, and if you don't reach your targets, they do tend to let you go. But i do agree that it would be a great way to meet people, so good luck with it all. :)
Shannon take it from me this is a great idea i have being selling new and used cars for the last four years. I never though about getting into sales coming from a banking back ground, i just sort of fell into the job. I have had a child and gone back to work again full time they are very flexiable with my hours and i have even had a promotion to manager. If you can get your self into a good yard (i dont believe that the bigger dealers are the best ones to work for) you should love it. Please let me tell you this the industry gets into your blood and you will never want to do anything else. It realy does come down to the dealership that you work for to how much you enjoy it i can tell you this much. I have just recently employed another female and customers love it. (especially the families) So speaking from experence i have a young child i am female and i love the industry you should give it a go how will you ever know if you dont give it a chance.
If anyone in Perth is looking for a job, let me know as my husband is a new car manager, looking for a trainee and he prefers women as they are recieved better by the customers :) I work in a car yard and would LOVE to do sales but I have kids, so its really hard with the hours :) ehhe Good luck!
I have got a job Selling Hyundai's in Perth and i love it. I work with some very supportive staff and my manager is fantastic. Thank you for everyones help. Ive only being doing this for 6 weeks but enjoy it sooo much. Hopefully ill be still in the industry many years to come as this is the career path i have chosen and so far am extremely enjoying it. Regards Shannon
Couldn't agree more. As a guy having been in the industry now for over 12 years I can honestly say I have worked with some fantastic female sales staff. We definitely need more women in our industry as it is still perceived by many as very blokey. Our industry has plenty of room for females to play an active role in.
Professionally speaking, I work for a large Toyota dealership in NSW and whilst the smaller yards can give you more of a family feel, the larger ones also usually have far more resources that you can utilize to increase your sales.
So congratulations and welcome to the industry and I hope you stick with it. because you can have a very rewarding career if you work hard at it.
P.S. I just looked at the date this thread began, it's been some time but my sentiments remain the same.
Hey everyone, I'm new to autochic :) I am also a saleswoman and love it. The weekends are a little difficult though. How does the forum work? How can I make a post?
